Two heads are better than one!

You know how the saying goes; two heads are better than one! Well then, I guess its safe to assume that multiple heads are better than one.

One of the most effective forms of study during exam time, in my opinion is through a study group. In saying that, every group member must obviously be there with the intention to study and have something to contribute to the group. It is important to conduct study groups with the correct bunch of people.

Once this is achieved, your time studying becomes efficient and effective.

Throughout senior school, especially before exam time, my peers and I would gather in the library in a small group discussing challenging questions and bouncing off each others ideas!

Here are 5 reasons why I believe group study can be so effective:

1. Increasing the class average

When you work in groups with like-minded people, it gives you the opportunity to grow and attempt the more challenging questions. This means that when exams come around each group member has a better chance at succeeding in the harder style questions, boosting the overall average marks of the class.

2. Answering questions better than the teacher can

Sometimes your peers are better at answering your questions than your teacher. This is because they can see it better from your perspective and understand why you ask the questions, thereby providing you with the best answer! Ever find yourself in a situation where you ask the teacher a question, but the answer makes you more confused! Well maybe its time you try asking your peers!

3. Better use of time

As there is more than one person tackling the questions, it means that you are able to work through questions more efficiently, saving time and deepening understanding. This is what it means to study smarter, not necessarily harder!

4. Share resources

Each group member is able to bring a different textbook or past papers to the table, offering new questions that help to deepen your understanding of the topic at hand! Doing as many questions on the same topic but are presented in different ways is one of the quickest ways to get that band 6 score!

5. Offers different ways of completing questions

As mentioned previously, having different minds working on a challenging question offers new perspectives and different ways to complete the solution. This is extremely handy during harder application questions because at times, the solution is as many as the people there are doing it!

All in all, if you are faced with tough questions, try asking your peers before you approach the teacher. Or if you find yourself struggling with a certain topic area, organize a small study group with those as eager as yourself and bring different minds together to bring you closer to the solution!
